Troy Pritt on Addiction, Recovery, and Creating a Walkway to Healing

In Episode 8 of The Real Story, host Michael Silberman sits down with Troy Pritt of Walkway to Healing for an honest conversation about addiction, loss, recovery, and what it means to use your own experience to help someone else find a way forward.

Troy’s story begins with a childhood shaped by major changes within his family and eventually leads into his own struggle with substance use. He opens up about losing his mother, experiencing homelessness, reaching a point where he was ready for something different, and finding the people and structure that helped introduce him to recovery.

Today, those experiences influence the way Troy approaches helping others. Through Walkway to Healing, he works to reduce barriers to treatment and make support available when someone is ready to ask for help.

About This Episode

Recovery rarely follows a straight line.

For Troy, substance use became intertwined with family relationships, grief, homelessness, and years of consequences. After losing his mother and becoming increasingly disconnected from his family, Troy eventually reached a point where he was tired of the life he was living and entered treatment.

There, he encountered people who introduced him to a different way of living. Troy describes this period as a time when he began recognizing that God was doing things for him that he could not do for himself.

That experience eventually led Troy into the behavioral health field. After seeing firsthand what recovery could look like for someone who had once entered treatment at their lowest point, helping others became more than a job.

It became part of his purpose.

Troy's connection to the recovery community is deeply personal. After experiencing addiction, the loss of his mother, homelessness, and disconnection from his family, Troy eventually entered treatment and began building a life in recovery. He later found an opportunity to work at a treatment center, where seeing clients transform through recovery helped inspire him to dedicate his own life to helping others.

Troy’s experiences now influence the approach at Walkway to Healing. During the episode, he discusses the importance of 24/7 admissions, reducing barriers to care, connecting people with appropriate resources when Walkway cannot serve them directly, and recognizing that different people may need different approaches to treatment.
